CUSTOMER CARE

HOW TO CARE FOR A VELVET NEOPRENE BIKINI

We recommend that you hand wash your bikini with cold fresh water after every swim.

Lay the bikini flat out to dry which will prevent wrinkles and creases. We do not recommend ironing your Lula bikini but you can iron it using something in-between the garment.

Never use a washing machine to clean your swimwear or tumble dry the garment, this will fade the beautiful colour and wear out the special velvet material.

Try not to use harsh sunscreens with alcohol as this can harm your bikini.

Avoid wearing in extremely warm water temperatures (Like spas or saunas) as this could cause damage to the bikini.

We will not provide a refund for swimsuits that were damaged by these actions.

Because of the nature of the fabric for the tie up bikini, we recommend you treat this item carefully. Please do not put too much stress on the strings or tie it up too tight as it will start to become damaged and wear quickly.

BENEFITS

Everything you need to know about our Velvet Neoprene bikinis, what makes them so unique and what the benefits are!

WHAT IS VELVET?

Velvet is a type of woven tufted fabric in which the cut threads are evenly distributed, with a short dense pile, giving it a distinctive soft feel. It feel so smooth and looks very classy.

WHERE DID VELVET ORIGINATE FROM AND WHEN?

Ever wonder why Velvet looks so luxurious and high end? Simple... it has historical and royal roots. There are several schools of thought as to where and when velvet originated, but it’s generally agreed that it was somewhere in the Far East around the 13th century. Velvet was quite costly to produce and therefore available only to wealthy and royal families. Nobles in particular were drawn to its ability to accept richly hued dyes. Queen Elizabeth II still wears dyed velvet robes and regalia in formal ceremonies!

IS IT VERSATILE?

Yes! The fabric feels and looks more luxurious than most textiles, but that doesn’t mean it’s any less versatile! You could wear your Velvet Neoprene bikini to the beach or dress it up with a cute top or bottoms with jewellery! It can be worn to the beach, friends gathering or just on a casual day out. It transcends trends and styles beautifully!

IS IT BUILT TO LAST?

It’s a common misconception that velvet is high-maintenance. In truth, the fabric isn’t all that delicate and can last for decades if properly cared for. Velvet is a functional option that will hold up beautifully to years of wear. Velvet is just like leather or a fine wine; It gets only better with age.

WHAT IS NEOPRENE?

Neoprene is a good general purpose rubber and is extremely versatile. It has a high tensile strength, making it good in industrial settings and other environments where there is a lot of movement, such as in water. Neoprene has good resistance to chemicals, water, heat, flames, oxygen and ozone. It has more resistance against water, solvents and heat compared with natural rubber. The material is also good against weather and sunlight meaning that it ages well.

IS NEOPRENE BREATHABLE?

As many of you know, most Neoprene fabrics are closed-cell, therefore not breathable. However the Neoprene fabric used with our Velvet to create our sustainable and versatile bikinis are open-cell, meaning they are breathable.

With the combination of Velvet and Neoprene fabric, its very clear why it's such a unique and rare piece and how you can benefit from it. We are only one of two brands in the entire world who produce Velvet Neoprene bikinis but what makes Lula Swim Label stand out, is that we have a diverse offering for all shapes and sizes. We believe in the importance of accepting and loving ourselves as we are, without having to change a single thing!
